The King of Pop finally gets the biopic treatment… but does it live up to the legend? In this episode, TeaRon breaks down MICHAEL, the long-awaited film centered on the life of Michael Jackson. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and backed by the Jackson family, the film introduces Jaafar Jackson in a striking portrayal of his iconic uncle. With a stacked cast including Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and more, the film delivers stunning recreations of Michael’s most legendary performances from his early days in Gary, Indiana to the rise of the The Jackson 5 under Berry Gordy.
But while the visuals and nostalgia hit, the storytelling struggles. Rushed pacing, surface-level moments, and a noticeable lack of emotional depth leave the film feeling more like a highlight reel than a true character study. For a figure as complex and influential as Michael Jackson, the film plays it safe, avoiding the deeper layers many fans were hoping to finally see.
TeaRon dives into what works, what doesn’t, and whether this biopic truly captures the man behind the legend or just the myth.
